IRON NEST gameplay follows a deliberate artillery procedure rather than a one-button attack. The Operator receives a mission through the teleprinter, writes down the important information, uses the tactical map to make measurements, and feeds the result into the ballistic calculator. The selected shell, powder charges, elevation, and bearing then become a physical setup inside the turret.
The player walks between mechanisms in first person. Loading requires working the bridge, chamber, shell-handling system, and powder supply instead of watching an automatic animation. Rotation, elevation, gun selection, arming, and firing remain the Operator’s responsibility.
After the shot, the game communicates impact through the map, reconnaissance photographs, text traffic, sound, and a newspaper. Completing the mission and dismissing its report can also matter for challenge-score recording. Sleeping moves the campaign to the next assignment.

Is there automatic aiming?
The verified core loop requires the Operator to measure the tactical map, use the calculator, and set the guns. No one-button auto-aim feature is documented. Reconnaissance and abilities can provide information without replacing the firing procedure.
Can the turret move?

The notebook gives the Operator a place to preserve coordinates, bearings, distances, target descriptions, and other useful details from a mission. The Operator loads the chosen round, adds the required charges, closes the mechanism, and sets elevation and rotation. The turret has left and right guns, and the player can arm one or both depending on the situation. Its stated armament is two 800 mm barrels. The experience emphasizes scale, delay, sound, and mechanical consequence rather than rapid-fire aiming.
Reading results and consequences
IRON NEST does not center its feedback on a close-up cinematic kill camera. Reconnaissance photographs can appear on the map and show how the battlefield changed. Teleprinter messages, mission-state audio, and reports provide further evidence.
The end-of-mission newspaper connects the shot to the campaign’s political and military story. It can frame success, collateral consequences, or High Command’s version of events. That indirect reporting asks the player to interpret what happened instead of accepting one clean visual answer.
Challenge scoring has its own completion rules. The FAQ says a Challenge score must come from a correctly completed mission and requires the newspaper to be dismissed to save. Chill mode records cumulative confirmed kills when runs are properly completed.

The Requisition Console supports progression between assignments. Players can request new ammunition, reconnaissance assistance, battlefield-control abilities, powder resources, and other supplies as they advance. Exact costs and unlock conditions belong to the current release build.
