Minimum PC requirements
IRON NEST requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. The minimum CPU is an Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-8350, with 4 GB of RAM and Intel UHD or AMD Vega 8 graphics. The store also lists DirectX 10 and 5 GB of available storage.
These are unusually accessible graphics entries for a detailed first-person simulation, but “minimum” has a specific target. The developer says this configuration aims for an average of 30 FPS at 720p on low settings. It is not a promise of 1080p, high settings, or a locked frame rate.
The graphics names are broad families rather than one exact integrated chip model. Laptop power limits, memory configuration, driver age, cooling, and the specific UHD or Vega implementation can change results. The developer therefore recommends a dedicated GPU for a smoother experience.
System requirements questions
Will 4 GB of RAM always be enough?
Four gigabytes is the published minimum, not a guarantee for every background workload or integrated-GPU memory arrangement. The minimum target is an average of 30 FPS at 720p low. Eight gigabytes is the official recommended amount.
Can Intel UHD run the game?
Intel UHD appears in the minimum graphics entry, alongside AMD Vega 8. Because those are broad families, exact laptop and chip behavior can differ. The developer recommends a dedicated GPU for smoother performance and provides a free demo for direct testing.
Does the game require an SSD?
No SSD requirement is published in the checked table. The store states 5 GB of available storage without naming a drive type. Loading behavior on specific devices should not be predicted without measurement.
What does the recommended tier target?
The recommended hardware lists stronger CPU, memory, and dedicated graphics, but no official resolution, preset, or frame-rate target accompanies it. Do not advertise 1080p, 60 FPS, or high settings as guaranteed. Use the current demo or release build to measure the intended configuration.
Recommended PC requirements
The recommended CPU is an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600. Recommended memory rises to 8 GB of RAM. The graphics recommendation is an NVIDIA GTX 1060 with 6 GB of VRAM or AMD RX 580 with 8 GB.
Storage remains 5 GB and the captured listing continues to show DirectX 10. The published table does not attach an exact resolution, quality preset, or frame-rate target to the recommended tier. Do not convert “recommended” into an unsupported performance guarantee.
Both recommended GPUs are dedicated cards, matching the developer’s minimum-note advice. A newer model is not automatically faster if it is a low-power laptop part, and a desktop card can perform differently across drivers and cooling setups. Compare actual hardware capabilities, not only naming generations.
Understanding the minimum performance target
The only official numeric performance target in the checked requirements is an average of 30 FPS at 720p on low settings for the minimum configuration. “Average” allows individual scenes to run above or below that point. The game’s moving mechanisms, map systems, effects, and extended sessions can create workloads that vary over time.
A June 30 demo patch included substantial lower-specification optimizations and improved progressive frame-rate degradation during extended Uncontested Front operations. That patch history shows that sustained play mattered during testing. It does not establish one universal result for every version or machine.
For a real compatibility check, install the free Steam demo and complete a full firing sequence. Test the settings and power mode you intend to use, and watch performance after the machine has been active for a while. An opening-menu reading is less informative than an actual operation.
Integrated graphics and dedicated GPUs
Intel UHD and AMD Vega 8 appear in the minimum table, so a dedicated card is not presented as an absolute launch requirement. However, the same official note recommends dedicated graphics for smoother results. Both statements can be true because minimum compatibility and preferred experience are different standards.
Integrated graphics usually share system memory. A 4 GB minimum-memory computer may therefore have less usable RAM available to the game after the GPU and operating system take their share. The requirements do not publish a special integrated-graphics memory rule, so any exact allocation advice would be an inference.
Lower resolution, low settings, current drivers, adequate cooling, and closing unnecessary background applications are reasonable general steps. They are not replacements for official troubleshooting. If the demo fails on a machine that appears to meet the broad family name, report the exact CPU, GPU, RAM, operating system, driver, and symptoms.
Steam Deck, Linux, and storage notes
Steam marks IRON NEST as Steam Deck Verified and lists full controller support. That provides a separate compatibility result for Valve’s handheld. It should not be used to claim that every unrelated Linux desktop receives official support.
The developer says no native Linux build is planned, although the Windows version appeared to run through Proton 10.0. Proton behavior can change with updates, and the two-person team does not offer native Linux support at this stage. Users should distinguish community compatibility from an officially supported platform.
The listed 5 GB is available storage, not necessarily the exact download transfer size. Updates, temporary installation data, shader caches, saves, and platform overhead can require extra free space. Keep a reasonable margin rather than filling the drive to exactly the published minimum.
Requirements verified August 7, 2026 from the official store capture and developer FAQ. Exact performance outside the published 720p-low minimum target remains system-dependent.
